Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG is located in the region of Umbria in the heart of central Italy. The wines are based exclusively on the native red grape variety Sagrantino, made in two styles: a dry red wine or passito, a sweet wine produced from dried grapes. Sagrantino is intensely aromatic, offering notes of dark berries, dried herbs, spices, and earthy undertones, supported by a dense structure and firm tannins that make the wines particularly suitable for extended ageing. Regulations require Montefalco Sagrantino reds to age for a minimum of three years, with at least one year in oak barrels. These wines pair beautifully with rich, savory dishes such as grilled lamb chops or braised beef.
