Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG is located in the Veneto region of northern Italy on the hills between Verona and the Dolomites Mountains. It was awarded Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita status in 2009 to differentiate the quality of these hilly vineyards from other areas producing Prosecco. This sparkling wine must be made with the “Charmat or Martinotti Method”, where the bubbles are created in stainless steel tanks before being transferred to the bottles, and can be labeled as Extra Brut, Brut, Extra Dry or Dry depending on the level of residual sugar. It must include at least 85% of the native white grape Glera, formerly known as “Prosecco”, and a maximum of 15% of other local grapes including Bianchetta Trevigiana, Perera, Chardonnay or Pinot Nero, among others. The resulting wines are full of complex aromas of nectarine, white flowers and grapefruit, with bright acidity and persistent bubbles. This DOCG also produces a small amount of frizzante and still white wines.
These wines can be labeled with the full name “Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG”, with the shorter version “Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG”, or only including either Conegliano or Valdobbiadene.
