Sicilia Rosso DOC covers the production of red wines throughout the island of Sicily. It may be labeled as a varietal wine, such as Nero d’Avola, or simply as Rosso for red blends. Regulations allow for the use of both native Sicilian grapes, such as Nero d’Avola (also known as Calabrese), Frappato, and Nerello Mascalese, and international varieties like Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Wines based on Nero d’Avola are typically deeply colored and expressive, showing notes of cherry, chili pepper, and tobacco, with a full-bodied profile. Excellent to enjoy with crispy pork belly or roasted duck breast.
